Statement of Faith

The Scriptures

We believe in the absolute authority and accuracy of the Bible, both the Old and New Testaments; its verbal inspiration in the original manuscripts and its all-sufficiency as the Christian's rule of faith and practice. (II Tim. 3:16; II Peter 1:19-21).

The True God

We believe that there is but one God, the Creator, Preserver and Ruler of all things, Who is perfect in holiness, and in love, infinite in wisdom and measureless in power, and Who reveals Himself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Deut 6:4; Neh. 9:6; I Chron. 29:11,12; Ex. 15:11; I John 4:8b; Matt. 28:19).

Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal and only begotten Son of God, conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, and that He is true God and true man and is the only and sufficient mediator between God and man. (Matt 1:20; Luke 1:35; John 1:1,2,14; John 12:45; I Tim. 2:5).

Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity, whose ministry is to convict the world of sin and of righteousness and of judgment, to regenerate the unbelieving, and to seal, sanctify, teach and comfort those who believe in Jesus Christ. (John 16:8-11; 3:3,7; 14:26; Eph. 1:13).

Man

We believe that man was created in the image of God, and that he sinned and thereby incurred both physical and spiritual death; thus, we believe that all men by nature and by choice are sinners and are guilty and deserving of the wrath of God and thereby are in need of salvation. (Gen 1:26; 2:17; Ezek. 18:20a; John 3:3,5,7; Rom. 6:23; Eph. 4:22-24).

Redemption

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice, that all who believe in Him and receive Him as personal Savior are justified on the ground of His shed blood and finished work on the cross. (I Cor. 15:3,4; Rev. 1:5).

Salvation

We believe that salvation is by grace through faith, not of works, and that all who receive by faith the Lord Jesus Christ are born again of the Holy Spirit, thereby becoming children of God. We believe in the eternal security of the saved. (Eph 2:8,9; John 3:3,7; 1:12; Eph 4:30; John 6:37-40; 10:27-30; I Pet. 1:5).

Resurrection and Return of Christ

We believe in the resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord, in his ascension into Heaven, and in His present ministry there for us as High Priest and Advocate. We believe in the personal, visible, bodily, imminent and premilennial return of the Lord Jesus Christ for His redeemed ones, to be followed by His coming glory. (I Cor. 15:4; Acts 1:8-11; Heb. 4:14-16; I John 2:1,2; I Thess. 4:13-17; Rev. 19:11-16; 20:1-15).

Eternal State

We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, the everlasting conscious blessedness of the saved, and the everlasting conscious punishment of the lost. (I Cor. 15:20-24; Rev. 20:12-15; II Cor. 5:8)

The Church

We believe in the Church, a living, spiritual body of which the Lord Jesus Christ only is the Head, and which is composed solely of those who have been redeemed and washed in His blood, and regenerated by the Holy Spirit, and that the local, visible church is a company of believers in Jesus Christ, associated together for worship, work, and fellowship. (I Cor. 12:1-31; Matt. 16:16-18; Acts 2:42-47).

Ordinances

We believe in the observance of the ordinances of Baptism and the Lord's Supper in obedience to the commands of Christ. We believe that baptism is the immersion of the believer in water in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, as a sign of his fellowship with the death and resurrection of Christ, of remission of sins, and of this giving himself up to God, to live and walk in newness of life. We believe that the Lord's Supper is an ordinance of Jesus Christ, to be administered with the elements of bread and the cup, and to be a commemoration of His death "till he come." (Acts 2:42,46,47; Eph. 5:23; Matt. 28:19,20; Acts 2:38; Acts 8:36-39; Rom. 6:3,4; I Cor. 11:23-26; Mark 16:15-16).

Priesthood of Believers

We believe in the universal spiritual priesthood of believers; that is, all true believers are priests and have the privilege of approaching God through Christ and of interpreting the Scriptures through the Holy Spirit. (I Tim. 2:5; I John 2:27; Rev. 1:6).

The Local Church

We believe in the sovereignty of the local church, recognizing the Lord Jesus Christ as our sole Head and that each local church has the right to be independent and autonomous and must be free from interference by any ecclesiastical or political authority. (Acts 6:2,3; Acts 4:18-20; II Cor. 8:19).

Spiritual Gifts

We believe in the administration of spiritual gifts through the operation of the Holy Spirit; the gifts of the evangelists, pastors, and teachers, are sufficient for the perfecting of the Church today. Sign gifts, including tongues, gradually disappeared as the canon of Scriptures was completed and the authority of the Bible generally recognized. But God, being sovereign in the bestowment of all His gifts, does hear and answer prayer of faith according to His own will for the sick and the afflicted. (Eph. 4:7-12; Rom. 12:3-8; I Cor. 12:4-11; James 5:13-16; I John 5:14-15).
