Disciple to Maturity

Advanced Adult Training Class: Fall 2010 Quarter Classes

We are delighted to offer classes so that the believer might advance both in depth and breadth of their knowledge and understanding of Biblical truths. Classes are offered every Wednesday night from 7:00pm to approximately 8:15pm. Below and on the back is a list of the classes starting September 8, along with a brief description.

The Hour That Changes the World (Room 304)

Praying for any length of time can be challenging. Our minds wander, we get tired, we might even wonder if it’s making a difference. Yet, Jesus asked the disciples “Could you not watch with me one hour in prayer?” (Matt. 26:40). What if our prayer time was divided into 5-minute increments with 12 different focuses? That’s the precept behind Dick Eastman’s book The Hour that Changes the World. Books will be provided. We will study prayer from the Bible and practice it in the class as well.

Dad’s for Discipleship (Pastor Phil’s Office)

As men we need to be reminded of our responsibilities before God, and we benefit from the necessary accountability with one another. Join us as the Spirit reveals areas of growth and opportunities for learning in your spiritual life.

Mom 2 Master (Room 201)

In her book, Don't Make Me Count to Three, Ginger Plowman encourages and equips moms to look past the outward behavior of their children and dive deeply into the issues of the heart. The candid approach of this book will help moms move beyond the frustrations of not knowing how to handle issues of disobedience and into a biblical, well-balanced approach to raising their children. We will be finishing Ginger Plowmans’s book during September and will begin a new study in October.

Romans - continuation (Room 202)

This class is a study of Paul's most well-known letter. We will explore how Paul's Gospel reveals "the righteousness of God," and how Paul argues that, precisely in the Gospel of the death and resurrection of Jesus the Messiah, God has been faithful to His promises to Israel. Note: This is a discovery-style class, so bring your Bible and plan on participating.

Biblical Discipleship 101 (Room 302)

So you call yourself a Christian, but what does that really mean to you? How are you doing with living out your God given responsibilities? When opportunities arrive to speak into the lives of others are you willing, ready, and able to deliver the gospel with true scriptural integrity? Do you understand the depth of scripture and it's sufficiency to speak into all aspects of our lives? How often do you give your opinion or offer counsel to people and does God view your response as truly representing His words?

This course is an adaptation of our Introduction to Biblical Counseling and will instruct you to correctly understand the need to function biblically in your daily walk. We will learn the importance of responding in scripturally based ways as we endeavor to enter the lives of others with the hope of Christ. You should attend this course if you are concerned about accurately and effectively sharing the Gospel, if you feel unsure if your counsel is biblical, or you feel unsure how to answer a person's need from God's Word.
